NHS Evergreen Supplier Assessment

Driving Sustainability Across NHS Supply Chains

Partner with us to meet NHS sustainability goals. Together, we’ll make your Evergreen Supplier Assessment journey simple and impactful.

What is the NHS Evergreen Supplier Assessment?

The NHS Evergreen Supplier Assessment is designed to support the NHS’s journey to Net Zero, giving suppliers a clear way to demonstrate alignment with NHS sustainability goals.

The NHS is working to become the world’s first Net Zero health system and suppliers are key to making that happen.  Through the Evergreen Supplier Assessment, suppliers are assessed against 4 maturity levels that indicate alignment with NHS sustainability priorities:

  • Level 1 (lowest maturity) – Publicly committed to Net Zero carbon and engaged with sustainability
  • Level 2 – Comprehensive Net Zero targets and reporting for carbon emissions, with a structured approach to addressing modern slavery and driving social value
  • Level 3 – 2045 Net Zero targets that are independently validated, and completion of the modern slavery assessment tool
  • Level 4 (highest maturity) – 2045 Net Zero targets, independently validated, across the global organisation, while actively taking steps to map supply chain or investigate and mitigate supplier risks of modern slavery

Teamwork IMS can support you in readiness for, and completion of, the Evergreen supplier self-assessment covering areas like carbon emissions reporting, Net Zero targets, your approach to addressing modern slavery, and your sustainability and social value commitments.  Once submitted, you’ll receive your sustainability maturity score, helping you understand where you stand and how to improve.  It’s quick, transparent and increasingly essential for NHS contracts.

Taking part, positions your organisation as a responsible partner in healthcare. It’s not just about compliance – it’s about leading the way in sustainability and strengthening your relationship with the NHS.

Frequently asked questions

What is the NHS Evergreen Supplier Assessment?

The NHS Evergreen Supplier Assessment is a self-assessment for suppliers to engage with the NHS on their sustainability journey and understand how they can align with the NHS Sustainability goals.

Is the the NHS Evergreen Supplier Assessment mandatory?

The NHS Evergreen Sustainable Supplier Assessment is not universally mandatory, but there are specific cases where it is required:

When is it mandatory?

  1. NHS Supply Chain Frameworks
    • Existing frameworks: Suppliers already on NHS Supply Chain frameworks must submit the Evergreen Assessment by 1 February 2024.
    • New frameworks: Suppliers bidding for future NHS Supply Chain frameworks must complete the Evergreen Assessment as part of the tender process.
  2. NHS England Medicines Tenders
    • From January 2024, all tenders managed by the Medicines Value and Access directorate require submission of the Evergreen Assessment.

When is it NOT mandatory?

  • For most other NHS procurement, the Evergreen Assessment is currently voluntary, but strongly encouraged.
  • However, it is expected to become essential for eligibility by 2030, as part of the NHS Net Zero Supplier Roadmap.
What benefits does the assessment offer to suppliers?
  • Benchmarks your organisation against current and future NHS priorities to see how they align to the NHS’s sustainability priorities
  • The assessment offers one conversation with the NHS with a standardised way of communicating their sustainability information to all NHS buyers
  • Supports sustainability ambitions, helping inform internal planning and decision-making, such as developing business cases for sustainable investment or sustainability target setting
  • A strong maturity rating can differentiate an organisation from its competitors, strengthening your relationship with the NHS and making it more appealing to other clients and partners who prioritise sustainability
What criteria will be used for assessment?

Suppliers are assessed against 4 maturity levels that indicate alignment with NHS sustainability priorities:

After completing the assessment, suppliers will receive a sustainability maturity level that indicate how they align with NHS sustainability goals, including signposting their current position and pathway to progress.
